Leadership, Strategy, Strategic Change

  • Leaders create strategy
  • Strategy means change
  • Strategy is implemented through strategic change

Leaders create the vision, and define the strategy. Building4Business practitioners are specialists in strategic change and partner with you to implement strategy to move your information dependent business to an optimal then effectual state. As we implement strategy we build leadership capability.

John Kotter, Harvard Business School (1990), argued that leadership was about coping with change, whereas management was about order and consistency. Leaders establish direction by developing a vision of the future, align people by communicating this vision and inspiring them to overcome hurdles.

Robbins, Millett and Waters-Marsh (2004), defined leadership as the ability to influence a group, toward the achievement of goals/outcomes. Organisations need strong leadership and strong management for optimal effectiveness. Leaders create visions for the future and inspire organisational members to want to achieve the vision. Managers then create efficient organisational structures and oversee day to day operations.

In the Building4Business model, leaders create the vision and define the strategy. As change is implemented, the organisation changes state, as illustrated in the strategic change cycle. The organisation state changes as outputs, cost, benefits and value change. Initially, change brings an organisation to a static efficient state. In our model the change then brings about a creative state, as an organisation cannot get to an optimal or effectual state without innovation.

Building4Business believes that leadership needs to create the vision but once an effectual state is reached the next generation needs to be initiated. This means that the business has continuous innovation that perpetuates your effectual state. We embed the changes necessary for continuous innovation that perpetuates your effectual state.
